Ode to the tomato...

...oh, how I love thee!

I haven't really posted on here much because I've been busy with my experiment on Raw Food Wannabe and there really just isn't as much going on in Michigan during the fall. The farmers markets are still going on, and I definitely encourage you to check some out before it gets too cold!

Since I've been making raw food recipes every (almost!) day for the last few weeks, I've been using a lot of tomatoes. And I researched their health benefits, out of curiosity. I always heard tomatoes were good for prostrate, but was astounded at all of their other health benefits. Maybe I'm the last to know this, but I thought I'd share! Health Benefits of Tomatoes

And I absolutely love basil and oregano, which are also so good for you it's crazy! It makes almost any raw food recipe with vegetables taste better!

I've also been using Vanilla a lot as a sweetener. One site even claimed Vanilla was good for breast cancer! Who knew Vanilla was so healthy? I just love how it smells! I guess I never thought of it as healthy because it's usually mixed in sugary, fattening foods!

rawfoodwannabe.info

Join me on my new website (I am not abandoning this one, it will just continue to be a place for things regarding raw food, health, michigan related events, and my general rambling lol) at Rawfood Wannabe where I attempt the raw food version of Julie and Julia! I am going to make two new raw food recipes every day, starting today, Sept. 13th, 2009, for one year! That would be a big commitment for most people, but I also hate, absolutely hate, to cook (raw or non-raw!) So, I think I've officially lost my mind! I really want to learn how to make raw foods and get in the habit though, so we shall see! Feel free to send me moral support and ideas! I'm going to need it! :)

The Origin of Labor Day...

For an interesting bit of history on this holiday I found history.com's site to have a lot of good info.

Happy Labor Day!

Go find a good vegetarian or raw food potluck on meetup if you don't have any like minded vegetarian friends and family, and enjoy a day off (or, if you are stubborn like me and don't like being told when to take a break, you will be working anyways!)
